Data Consent, Direct Marketing & Communications Policy
How we handle your consent, marketing preferences and communications. Last updated September 2026.
1. Purpose of this policy
- This policy explains how RouteMate SA (Pty) Ltd obtains and manages your consent to process personal information and to send you service communications and direct marketing, in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and section 69 of POPIA on direct marketing.
- It should be read together with our Privacy & POPIA Policy.
2. Consent to process personal information
- When you register, you consent to RouteMate SA processing your name, contact details, trip addresses, payment metadata and (for drivers) identity and vehicle documents, for the purpose of operating the lift-club platform.
- Driver identity verification through our verification partner (VerifyNow) is a separate consent obtained during driver onboarding.
- You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal or contractual requirements. Withdrawal may limit or end your ability to use the platform.
3. Service communications
- By creating an account you agree to receive essential service communications about your account, bookings, payments, cancellations, payouts and security by email and, where applicable, WhatsApp or in-app notifications.
- These messages are part of the service and cannot be opted out of while your account remains active.
4. Direct marketing
- We only send direct marketing (news, promotions, new features) where you have opted in, or where you are an existing customer and the marketing relates to similar services, as permitted by section 69 of POPIA.
- Every marketing message identifies RouteMate SA as the sender and includes a simple, free way to opt out.
- You may opt out of marketing at any time via the unsubscribe link in the message, or by emailing us. Opting out does not affect service communications.
5. Communication channels
- Email: account confirmations, receipts, booking and payout notifications, and (if opted in) marketing.
- WhatsApp: trip coordination and support messages where you have provided a WhatsApp-enabled number.
- In-app notifications: booking, payment and account events visible in your dashboard.
6. Sharing and third parties
- We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the platform (payment processors such as PayFast and Ozow, identity verification, email delivery) under appropriate confidentiality and security terms.
- Rider and driver contact details are shared with each other only after a booking is paid, and only for trip coordination.
7. Your rights and choices
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and object to processing, as set out in the Privacy & POPIA Policy and the PAIA Manual.
- You may update your communication preferences or withdraw marketing consent at any time at no cost.
- If you believe your rights have been infringed, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
To update your preferences or withdraw consent, email enquiries@routematesa.co.za or call 010 502 5349. Also see our Privacy & POPIA Policy and PAIA Manual.
